The Sussex County Branch has been in existence since 1947. We will hold our 60th Birthday party this year.
Sussex County Branch members:
Hold regular branch meetings with interesting topics, friendship, and fellowship often including lunch.
Enjoy the company and friendship of other women who value education and equal rights
Provide scholarships to women attending Sussex County Community College majoring in any of the fields of art
Provide bus trips to cultural events. Examples include Broadway and opera performances. Many of these cultural events serve as fundraisers for our scholarship programs..
Share opportunities for activism at the local level with organizations such as the League of Women Voters
Address gender awareness and sexual harassment in local schools
Sponsor career awareness trips for Sussex County, middle school girls. Examples include visits to the Newton Court House and Sussex County Community College. Our goal is to give girls the opportunity to meet exciting female role models, to learn about possible careers, and to become familiar with the campus of SCCC. We are hoping that we might be able to partner with St. Clare’s Health Services and Girls Rule to give girls this opportunity.
Hold an annual garage sale to raise funds for scholarships and the national Education Foundation and Legal Advocacy Fund
Engage in monthly book clubs; avid readers share their insights of a selected book at a gracious member’s home. The club, an offshoot of our regular branch meetings, meets once a month, usually on Saturday morning. Selected summer, 2007 readings include The Peabody Sisters by Megan Marshall and
Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson.
